Guzelyurt Museum of Archeology and Natural History
The museum is on two floors and shows natural history on the ground floor with geological samples of all animals native to Cyprus. On the first floor there are cabinets displaying archeological finds from the bronze age and the recently discovered Ephesians Artemis.
St. Mamas Church
St. Mamas is a famous saint of Cyprus who lived as a hermit in a cave near to Guzelyurt. It is suggested that a church must have been established during the Byzantine period but nothing remains today. today's church is a complete reconstruction dating back to 1725.
Ancient City of Soli
There were nine Kingdoms of Cyprus. In 498 BC the Persians were in power in the area and Soli rebelled against the regime and severely defeated. The ancient city was in its prime during the Roman times but unfortunately during the Arab raids of the 7th AD the city was completely destroyed. What remains is one of the oldest churches in Cyprus and a 4000 capacity Roman amphitheater.
Vouni Palace
One of the great supporters of the Persian era was King Doxandros of Marion who built the palace in the 5th century BC. The aim of the palace was to supervise the City of Soli. The palace was destroyed in 380 BC by the Soli inhabitants. Excavations have found many treasures including gold and silver jewelry, silver coins and cups. In the south of the palaces you will find the remains of a 5th century BC Athena Temple.
